Imagine the colour - Cosmic Latte - it is thought to be the average colour of the universe, discovered in 2001 by astronomers Karl Glazebrook and Ivan Baldry.
Within this series I have explored how familiar, everyday objects and scenes can be constructed to represent the beige colour of the universe, in a way that is relatable to the viewer.
This series looks at taking this universal colour and bringing it ‘down to earth’. I constructed a monochromatic scene, using objects typically found in the space of a living room to enable the viewer to imagine the colour in their own space and construct a cosmic latte world of their own.
Whilst being fascinated by the surprising average colour of the universe, I wanted to create a body of work to present to an audience who would also be surprised and challenge the preconceptions of usual images we see of the cosmos and space. I have combined both space in the sense of the universe and personal space, a homely space, through this project allowing for a connection to be made, between the different environments.
